Sat Purkh + Abhai Raj | 06.10.2012

I've known Sat Purkh literally since the day I was born. She was (and still is) my spunky, cool Aunt Chiara. My dad's youngest sister who was always more of a play-mate to all of us cousins than the boring adults who were telling us to go to bed. She always used to tease Ashton (my closest cousin) and I that we would most likely get married before her. And although she was right, I'm glad that she waited until she found the perfect man before she decided to marry.

Because she did. She found the perfect man for her - to quote her, "he is the kindest man I know". Abhai Raj (known as "Pete" by his family) could not be more of a compliment to my aunt. Sat Purkh is gregarious and bold. Abhai Raj is calm and wise. She has the most amazing, big laugh. He has a sweet smile and a twinkle in his eye. She loves to sing. He loves to listen. She loves dogs. And he does too. They both have blue eyes that compete with the bluest of Texas summer skies.

(A brief explanation for the turbans: My aunt and the members of her community are practicing Sikhs and Kundalini Yogis. Wearing head coverings is an important part of their lifestyle.)

They met at a yoga workshop in Minneapolis, where my aunt was teaching. And it wasn't until 2 years later that they would begin their conversation up again - and this time to fall in love. Sat Purkh was meditating and heard a voice that told her "your husband is coming". Then in 21 days she received an email from him, the man from the yoga workshop, just checking in to see how she was and to say "hello".

Well, "hello" turned into many more words and exchanges that would lead them to where they are now. Married, and happy :)

Sat Purkh, I am overjoyed for you and your new husband (my new uncle!). May your life be filled with singing, laughter, and love :)

Sat Purkh shared with me that her and Abhai Raj's favorite moment during the ceremony was when he reached over and grabbed her hand :)
Babies in turbans are just too darn cute!

My beautiful grandmother was able to come! She was a trooper in that 15 passenger van with the rest of my family for 12 hours!

Flowing fabrics & Sat Naam,
